Check out this weeks Islamorada fishing report from our expert charter captain James Chappell as he describes the deep sea and wreck & reef trips.
Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report! Another exciting week here in our beautiful slice of paradise, and the weather was pretty good too other than some normal spring time weather moving around! Fishing has been picking up a bit this past week with a great variety to be had.
The offshore bite showing some Mahi in it, and the offshore humps have some smaller tunas, Amberjacks, and a bunch of size large sharks!
The deep ledges and wrecks have been picking up on the bottom bite with some nice Mutton Snappers, Kings, and even a couple Wahoo this past week. Lots of Bar Jacks and some Amber Jacks too! The reef bite picked up with a good bite of Yellowtail Snappers, and nice Cero Mackerel. Groupers are biting as well, and this season opens up on May 1st, so this week is an exciting one! The guys have been really tired of releasing these critters since the beginning of the year closure, so here we go! Still some Sailfish and Permit moving around all the way through the week too, so plenty to catch and plenty to do here in the upper Florida Keys!
Give us a call if you need a charter, as we don’t have much left open, but a few here and there. For those of you that make it out, stay safe out there as its going to be a busy week with grouper season opening! The weekend looks good on Saturday, but Sunday is looking rough with another late front coming through. It looks like it’s going to move through quickly, but we will see.
